A Nurse Who Has Earned a PhD, Coursework Example

A nurse who has earned a Ph.D. supports a longstanding tradition of research and scholarship in the practice environment (Dreher & Glasgow, 2011). It is expected that nurses in this capacity will learn to identify areas whereby nurses will facilitate research-based protocols and projects that are designed to improve patient care outcomes to promote greater quality of care (Dreher & Glasgow, 2011). The expansion of the DNP role in recent years also supports and engages nurses in the practice of improving their practice environments through research and scholarship that will promote specific areas where improvement and growth are necessary (University of St. Francis, 2015). Nurses in the DNP role face a different set of challenges from those who have earned Ph.Ds, and this reflects the importance of advancing research to the practice setting (AACN Essentials, 2006). Nonetheless, both roles have a valuable impact on an organization’s ability to succeed in providing its patients with a higher level of care and treatment (AACN, 2014). These roles serve to promote continuous improvement in the practice environment and to be successful in establishing a set of expectations that promote the advancement of the practice setting in a continuous manner (AACN, 2014).

The Chronic Care Model will be examined in the context of its ability to support a set of circumstances that will positively impact patient care and that will encourage the growth and development of nursing roles to increase patient care effectiveness. It is believed that this model will address the problem of readmissions that often exists in the emergency department and that requires further analysis in order to achieve successful results in this capacity. The quantitative research study utilizes a number of important tools in order to demonstrate its validity and strength in solving a specific research-based problem that requires further analysis and evaluation in support of developing a feasible response to the issue in question (Polit & Beck, 2012).
