Achieving optimal knowledge and experience in healthcare practice requires expertise in informatics to support long-term professional growth. In order to accomplish the HIS-specific competencies, exposure to different types of electronic health information is critical, including HIPAA regulations and other forms of knowledge that facilitate improved performance. Exploring the different dimensions of health information technology through communication and understanding reflects the importance of prioritizing key activities to support technology-based solutions to improve healthcare practice successfully. In addition, DNPs must recognize that information technology drives their practice and supports their overall professional growth and level of skill. Nurses at the DNP level would gain new knowledge and resources to drive their practice environment to the next level.

Making decisions using information technology requires critical thinking skills and strength in order to accomplish the desired objectives in treating patients. By using these alternatives wisely, they will better serve the practice environment and drive productivity and performance. In addition, they will demonstrate the importance of utilizing technologies in a cohesive manner in order to improve performance and support practice growth. Therefore, a level of cohesiveness among technologies is critical in supporting a successful and practical set of results. At the DNP level, the application of theory and evidence-based approaches to patient care must also be considered that drives the development of patient care quality at an even higher level. Therefore, healthcare informatics represents a level of support and knowledge that encourages DNPs to assume new risks to achieve greater rewards, including those involving procedural methods and applications of information technologies to practical problems that impact DNPs at this level. This process encourages the development of new ideas and creative applications of technology that will drive patient care quality and achievement to the next level.
