A systematic review requires a valid and enforceable data collection instrument that will have a positive influence on the research study in question and the outcomes that are derived. The systematic review instrument must be appropriate for the needs of the research subject in question. The methodology must also be clear and concise in order to achieve the desired benefit (Polit & Beck, 2012). The selected approach must also determine inclusion and exclusion criteria in order to select or exclude studies that will have the appropriate criteria in place (Joanna Briggs Institute, 2011). It should be recognized that not all research is created equal; therefore, some types might be more effective than others in aiming to address the intent and purpose of the study at a closer level. This process is important because it conveys the specific considerations of the study that will positively impact the research results.

A study instrument must be usable and practical in nature because this reflects the importance of evaluating the research articles in a concise manner and to remove any outliers that will not have any real impact or significance to the research question (Utami, Bickmore, Barry, & Paasche-Orlow, 2014). It is also necessary that the instrument possess a high degree of validity in order to promote the desired results, while also demonstrating that the process is both accurate and timely in nature (Polit & Beck, 2012).The instrument’s validity must be appropriate and must demonstrate a high level of validity that cannot be easily questioned or argued in the context of the study (Polit & Beck, 2012).

Finally, the study instrument must be reliable and consistent in its use and value to the research protocol, as this reflects a meaningful approach to the research that will have a lasting impact on achieving consistency and appropriateness in addressing the research questions. This is an important step towards the discovery of new tools and techniques to conduct a systematic review under the appropriate conditions.
