Breastfeeding Project Summary, Coursework Example

During the study, 10 participants in the Breastfeeding committee class were given 10 pre-test questions prior to the education session. The participants were also given 10 questions after the class, referred to as post-test. As seen in Figure 1, only four out of the 10 pre-test questions were answered by all 10 participants; whereas, in the post-test questions (Figure 2),

nine out of the 10 questions were answered by all of the participants. In addition, all of the questions that were answered by all ten participants in the pre-test were answered again in the post-test (Figure 1 and 2). Furthermore, questions that were only answered by six people or less in the pre-test were answered by all participants in the post-test. This suggests that the education session did inform participants about Breastfeeding and any questions that they were unsure of before the session, the participants felt more comfortable to answer after the session. Further comparison using statistical analyses, such as a Pearson Correlation, could compare the results to verify if the number of questions answered during the pretest varied significantly when compared to the post-test.

The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Program, and the required practicum, which was specific to student learning outcomes, has helped me to develop many effective approaches to nursing, as well as, how to apply the knowledge hands-on. I increased my ability to communicate with students, clients and co-workers. In addition, I was able to use any knowledge gained from the nursing program, whether in science or humanities and apply that to the health care of individuals. The practicum itself has helped improve my understanding of the role as an educator in the nursing field and the factors that are needed in order to change a facility. I feel participating in the practicum has guided my direction in nursing to a more educator role. Seeing first-hand how individuals gained knowledge after an education session has prompted me to seek a more active role in nursing education.
