Competition

When two people compete towards a common goal, they strive to attain what the other cannot.  The film “The Promotion” exemplifies this idea as two white-collar workers vie for a coveted job in middle management.  The nature of competition within this context can be seen through the principles of individual motivation, which is the result of the lifestyle choices made by Doug and Richard.  Their relationship is rooted in the idea of competition.  The conflicting relationships between these individuals highlights how people process their personal choices in contrast with those of other individuals.  The need to deal with these ideas in this sense, shows how both are unable to control a significant aspect of their lives.  This leaves behind the potential represents the processes that their personal lives are effected is regarded as fundamentally different struggles that they face, despite having the same goal.
