In module three a detailed description of how database conversion implementation could improve access to patient records in the Kaiser Permanante was offered. Eleven stages were outlined whereby this conversion process could be accomplished. The eleventh stage culminated in an ongoing evaluation of the conversion function in determining its efficacy as well as whether further updates were necessary. In this module an exploration into technology initiatives available to continually improve database function in my organization will be discussed (Kroenke& Auer, 2007).
A database is defined as ‘an organized collection of data’ (Kroenke & Auer, 2007, p.17). Usually data is categorized or assembled to model relevant reality elements/features. This is organized to support processes that desire specific information dissemination. For example, modeling makes laboratory tests results available in such a sequence that when providers log into the system they would encounter no difficulty in finding the appropriate information.Consequently, database management systems (DBMSs) became applicable in facilitating the process. This is an initiative that can be utilized to help improve the database conversion that has been executed (Lightstone, Teorey & Nadeau, 2007).
These software aredesigned to interact with users, applications outside of the data base orbit as well as the database itself. The purpose is to analyze data entering the system. Database management systems (DBMSs) can service a wide range offeatures, especially, if classified as general purpose device. These management systems facilitate creation, definition, update, querying as well as administer the database itself (Teorey, Lightstone & Nadeau, 2005).
More importantly, my organization can utilize a corporate data resource approach. This strategy requires asingle, organization-wide data architecture peculiar to the conversion or foundation structure that was implemented in the beginning. Precisely, a data architecture has been defined a science as well as method ofconstructing and maintaining a business driven data resource system. It must be aligned to real-world objects and events conceived as valuable to the organization andappropriate for the operating environments. It is this structure infiltrating the actual database component that offers a consistency across organizational boundaries. In this way business can function more efficiently through being able to readilyidentify data producing a very high extensive data quality relevant business support mechanism(Newell, 2003).
Based on the approach to each analysis area you identified in module three and expected outcomes, explain why it is important to carefully validate the analysis and evaluate the outcomes, and describe how you would approach the same.
The summary of approaches to each of the eleven analysis areas along with expected outcomes outlined in module three data conversion project entailed defining the scope of this project with the expected outcome being to eliminate non completion issues. Next in importance was obtaining the organization‘s approval with the outcome being ensuring that there would be enough funding for the project. A third approach with the accompanying outcome encompasseddata definition data definition aspect of the process(Kroenke & Auer, 2007).
Database language has always created difficulty regarding user ability in information technology systems. It creates such discrepancies that it makes the system obscure and incompatible.In defining language; testing tools and ultimately evaluating and re-evaluating the system functionality for optimal outcomes could tremendously improve database receptivity at Kaiser Permanante (Kroenke & Auer, 2007).
However, validating analysis is very important since the system analysts couldencounter data collection errors questions the validity of the process and whether outcomes are realistic. For example, the database language used for my organization may not be relevant for another. In assessing the implementation phase the peculiarities of my organization may not have been considered. Therefore during the decision making process incompatible comparisons could be made. Consequently the expected outcomes would be invalid for Kaiser Permanante. Instead of an efficient functioning system end user issues could develop.
Also when system analysts use statistics and graphs to display their findings it can confuse managers who may misinterpret the data. Hence, validation becomes necessary which entails getting another expert impression on the subject or an analysts not associated with the case to review the conditions. These validations procedures save organizations millions of dollars. A health information technology practice in the twenty-first century is very costly. Many providers were skeptical at first when releasing paper records was recommended due to the huge sums involved in the implementation process. As such, validating an system analysts report is vital prior to accepting a proposal to install any technology device within an organization’s health record system.
