What is the purpose of the argument?
- 339: “If today’s cars are emission-free, then so is this cigarette.”
The antecedent does not follow the consequent here; nor does the photograph behind these words play any viable role whatsoever. For one, the comparison of a car to a cigarette is too far out to be understood. Attention getting, sure; but logical or valid? I think not. For another, the vision this baby holding a cigarette does not logically tie in to this metaphor or proverb or catchphrase or whatever intent is expected to be derived at all. All that could be expected to be evoked would be emotional reactions on the part of the reader (such a plethora of emotional responses from a baby with a cigarette to even begin!). This does not directly refer to any particular car.
- 340: Here, the word “hanging” within the second sentence is meant to stand out. Martyrdom of pregnant women and “girls… at a particular risk” (?), unless at least 10% of every “population and reproductive health programmes” is donated. This is fallacious logic known as the bandwagon appeal or the bandwagon fallacy.
- 341: “Did you know that 99.9% of all percentages are made up on the spot in an attempt to make the statement seem more credible?” This is an attempt to make consumerfreedom.com seem more self-sufficient or autonomous (independent) than trial lawyers who try to pull our strings and make us work like puppet-masters.
- 342: This is a tough one. Poor kids, who are unaware and uneducated, smoke cigarettes? This kid cannot afford a shirt, but he can afford an unhealthy cigarette? Therefore, poor people are sinful, maybe?
- 343: Like took a terrible turn for these residents. The events we take for granted, may even perceive as a waste of time, in life anywhere else, are now a struggle for these people in need of assistance.
- 345: The demographics of today have far more of an upper-class / lower-class division than what existed previously. That is true today in the U.S., since we still seem to lack a middle class (wouldn’t that mean that we are a third-world nation?).
Who is the intended audience? List details about the target audience.
- 339: Female readers (really, anyone with a reactionary emotional conscious).
- 340: Company and corporate heads; “come on, hop on the bandwagon, or else you’ll be shunned by society!”
- 341: Any (preferably uneducated) person or group of people who want to feel that they stand for something. If the reader does not already desire this, then he or she should.
- 342: This can be more easily understood as art, rather than any kind of valid statement.
- 343: Any and every reader: This was more of a reality check, since those people throughout New Orleans really were in need of aid.
- 345: Any human who sees it.
