Effect of Barcode Technology, Coursework Example

A healthcare organization must develop strategies that support active communication among employees and with patients in order to achieve the desired objectives. Standards of healthcare technology must demonstrate a high level of effectiveness and strength in areas that include privacy and confidentiality (Dixon, 2008). At the same time, various forms of communication technology are available to facilitate the effective exchange of information across different channels. The utilization of communication technologies is essential to the success of an organization and its impact on nurses and patients (Hebda & Czar, 2013).

Two systems to be examined include social media, email, and text messaging as one comprehensive system, and medication administration to promote efficiency in this area. The former is essential because many people rely on social media, email, and messaging in order to accomplish the intended objectives in supporting the local patient population (Burney, Mahmood, & Abbas, 2010). This type of communication is immediate and supports an agenda that drives to facilitate healthcare practice and effective outcomes for patients. However caution must be exercised with these technologies because many claims are not always truthful and accurate in supporting high quality patient care.

Finally, medication administration using barcode technology is another form of communication that supports the minimization of medication errors and aims to improve patient care outcomes (Seibert et.al, 2014). Therefore, this type of technology is suitable for an organization to improve quality of care and to ensure that patients receive the appropriate medications; nonetheless, it is highly limiting in some respects because it does not provide a comprehensive approach to communication that goes beyond medication histories and listings in real time. Therefore, additional avenues must be explored in order to accomplish improvements in communication in the healthcare sector.
