Gendered Fields: Women, Men and Ethnography, Coursework Example

Ethnography represents a means of understanding how a specific population behaves under specific circumstances and recognizes the different elements which impact their lives in different ways. Therefore, these behaviors represent a means of identifying behaviors which influence a group of people and how they act under different types of conditions. The ability to recognize different roles and expectations is challenging on many levels because it represents a means of understanding the dynamics that impact a given population and what steps are required to ensure that its members are understood. The use of ethnography-based research provides a basis for understanding the dynamics of a population group and how the researcher is able to relate to this population in one way or another (Bell, Caplan, & Karim, 2013). Researchers may find it difficult in some cases to relate to the population in question and to apply practical knowledge in this context (Bell et.al, 2013). Therefore, the use of grounded theory may be ideal in some situations as a means of understanding and acknowledging the population and its behaviors; however, it also reflects a need to acquire new means of using existing instruments to positively impact the group as a whole (Bell et.al, 2013). Through participatory efforts, it is necessary to evaluate which types of research studies will be most feasible and to address the value of different perspectives in supporting a grounded theory approach that will positively impact the group as a whole (Hoare, Buetow, Mills, & Francis, 2013). These factors impact how nurses respond to problems within specific groups and what is required to ensure that the research protocol is effective in meeting group needs at a high level (Hoare et.al, 2013). This process also represents a means of recognizing group dynamics and how to integrate different ideas effectively to meet the necessary outcomes in a positive and meaningful way that will have a lasting impact on organizational needs and wants in a positive manner (Hoare et.al, 2013).
