Term Paper

Informatics Organizations involves organizations that participate in the study of the design development adoption and application of innovations based on IT in health care services delivery, development, and management. Informatics organization consists of the national informatics organization and the regional informatics organizations. This study discuses and describes four national informatics organizations and three regional informatics organizations.

National Organizations

American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)

One of the national informatics organizations is the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). This organization represents more than 40,000 health information and management professional who have exceptional education and work at the healthcare industry throughout the USA. These professionals purpose to serve the healthcare organizations and society by way of managing, analyzing, and utilizing extremely valuable data for patient care. They also make sure the data are accessible to the healthcare providers whenever it is in need. Therefore, AHIMA profession works to tackle the issues that influence the health care in today’s world. This ranges from the implementation of healthcare records to the adaptation and implementation of ICD-10 clinical coding systems that contribute to the emerging issues, for instance, health information exchange (Association, 2011).

American Medical Informatics Associations (AMIA)

The second national informatics organization includes the American Medical Informatics Associations (AMIA). This is a non-profit membership organization of persons, institutions, and corporations dedicated to developing and using information technologies in order to promote healthcare. AMIA draws more than 4000 health care professionals, researchers in informatics and thought-leaders in science, biomedicine, and healthcare. They also bridge knowledge and partnership in clinical research informatics, consumer health informatics, clinical informatics, translational bioinformatics, and public health care informatics. AMIA organizations’ role is to advance the informatics sector, evaluate interventions across the societies, assess the impact of health innovations on health policy, and move basic research finding from bench to bedside (Association, 2011).

American Nursing Informatics Association (ANIA)

American Nursing Informatics Association (ANIA) is a nonprofit organization that dedicates its services to support nurses that involve in designing, implementing and managing the information technology and systems, which in essence, enhances nursing education, clinical practice, and doing of research through education, networking and other professional activities. ANIA had to join with CARING the capital area roundtable on nursing informatics in which case the ANIA-CARING has 3388 members and more that 21 percent of this has certificates in nursing informatics by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Therefore, ANIA’s purpose is to enhance nursing informatics through research, education, communication and other professional activities.

American Telemedicine Association

The fourth national informatics organization includes the American Telemedicine Association. This association promotes the accessibility of Medicare to the health professionals and the consumers through telecommunications technologies. ATA purposes to bring different professionals together from academic medical centers, traditional medicines, technology, internet, online firms, and telecommunications institutions, medical societies, government, e-health sites, and others. This is solely to remove the difficulties hindering the advancements of telemedicine through the equitable, ethical, and professional development in healthcare delivery. Therefore, ATA plus the different membership associated with it, works to incorporate telemedicine into changed healthcare systems, in which case it will improve on the quality, affordability, and equity of healthcare all over the world.

Regional Organizations

International Health Terminology standards development organization (IHTSDO)

There exist regional informatics organizations. One of them includes the International Health Terminology standards development organization (IHTSDO). This nonprofit organization involves development and promotion of the use of SNOMED CT in order to support effective and safe health information exchange. SNOMED CT is a terminology for clinic and mostly its consideration is complete, multilingual healthcare terminology in the world. It is usually vital in usage and effective communication, and using again of meaningful health information. In essence, IHTSDO focuses in enabling the implementation of semantically accurate health records, which are interoperable. IHTSDO draws its members from the agencies of national governments or other bodies. For instance, the regional government agencies, in which case the appropriate government authority had to endorse within the country it represent.

International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA)

The second regional informatics organization includes the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA). The establishment of this independent organization was in 1989 by the Swiss law. This organization also plays crucial global significance in the use of information technology and science in the sectors of healthcare and research in health, medical and bioinformatics. IMIA plays a role of promoting the informatics in healthcare by stimulating research, development, and routine applications. They also represent health and medical informatics fields with the world health organizations. They draw membership from member societies, honorary fellows, institutions, and affiliates members (Sosa-Ludicissa, & Organization, 1997).

American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) International Affairs Committee

The third regional informatics organization is the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) international affairs committee. This organization enhances the contribution of global scientific communities partaking biomedical informatics studies. In order to help in supporting mounting health informatics worldwide, it will improve public health, besides improving the efficiency and quality of healthcare. Therefore, AMIA International Affairs Committee brings the finest thinkers in bioinformatics and healthcare together and collaborates on solutions to the next significant issues in the healthcare.

National informatics organization is more useful than the regional informatics organizations. This is because that national informatics organization gives the opportunity to meet with others, helps to advance in networking, and sharing of information and job leads.

In conclusion, informatics nurses join informatics organization depending on their choices and reasons. The organizations that thrive most are the ones that arrive at the needs of the nursing informatics community and the members in general. Although informatics organizations are presents in terms of local, national, regional, international, or virtual level, it is up to the person to choose one or more organizations depending on the activities and the member benefits he or she gets.
