Using Intervention Mapping, describe the process for preparing matrices of proximal program objective.

Intervention Mapping embodies a protocol used for developing theory-based and evidence-based health promotion programs. Essentially, it describes the process for preparing matrices for health promotion program objectives designing/planning in six steps. These steps embody a needs assessment emerging from the PRECEDE – PROCEED model. Second is defining of performance and change objectives, which must be consistent with scientific analyses of the health problem to be resolved along with the factors creating them (Bartholomew, Parcel,  Kok,  Gottlieb & Fernández, 2011).

Thirdly, a theory based intervention model must be selected. It is required that this model provide relevant and practical applications to the desires behavior change highlighted in the objectives. Fourth, is producing component of the program inclusive of objectives and design. The fifth step in preparing matrices of proximal program objective is anticipation of a program adoption objective encompassing implementation and sustainability features. Sixth and final step in the process entails designing an objective matrix expressing an anticipated outcome and evaluation criteria (Leerlooijer, Ruiter, Reinders, Darwisyah, Kok & Bartholomew, 2011).

Each step requires specific tasks to be performed which facilitate the matrix design validity. For example, in step one the planner must establish a participatory planning group to assess the community’s capacity and determine needs. Step is where construction of matrices occur. This task involves clearly stating behavior outcomes for anticipated environmental change. The next very important task is emphatically stating the performance objectives. Subsequently, selection of changeable determinants is conducted and finally the matrices of change objectives are designed. Tasks in step six are as vital as in tree where matrices are designed because they entail selecting an evaluation model and writing up an execution plan (Bartholomew, et.al, 2011).
