Introduction

The use of social networks as a promotional tool for health literacy is increasingly prevalent and demonstrates the importance of expanding the reach of important health information to the general public (Milstead, 2013). The ability to provide consumers with health information via social networking is of critical importance in prevention and outreach across different areas (Milstead, 2013). This enables APNs to utilize their skills to improve patient knowledge and prevention.

Analysis

The ever-increasing presence of mobile technology and social media represent a means of engaging healthcare providers, such as APNs, with their patients, and in advancing general insights regarding the US healthcare system (Kovner,  Knickman, & Weisfeld, 2011). It is important to attract the interest of patients in addressing their own health risks through social media and mobile technology because these efforts support the growth of interest in the practice environment. This process also demonstrates the importance of advancing patient care objectives through an analysis of specific programs that are designed to guide patients with the guidance of their physicians to achieve a greater level of patient-centered care (Krist & Woolf, 2011). The continued evolution of the Affordable Care Act has been another defining element in the development of a new perspective regarding healthcare in the United States and its overall direction in providing access to healthcare for all persons.

Conclusion

Healthcare in the United States has evolved  in recent years to accommodate new directions and technologies, including social media. These tools have the power to promote successful outcomes and to be proactive in providing health information to patients and the general public as quickly as possible. This practice will enable organizations to recognize the value of promoting health information using technology-based means on a continuous basis to improve general health and wellbeing.
