Introduction

A set is a group of items put together. They can be listed in two groups. If we take an example of la man, there are those things that are essential while others are for fun. The first set which we are going to call set A will have the essential things that a man must buy and the second set which will be set B will have the items that a man just needs for fun.

The things that a man must have to buy:

No UNITS Set A (ESSENTIAL) Prices
1 Clothes 20
1 Shoes 40
1 Food 60
1 Phone 70
1 Medicine 80
TOTALS 270

The things that a man may will buy:

  UNITS Set B

(FUN TUFF)

Prices
1 Cake 90
1 TV box 120
1 Padlock 30
1 Drinks 60
1 Millet 40

The totals in set A

20+40+60+70+80 = 270

The Union is the collection of all the sets.

The totals of the union (U)

A U B

20 U 40 U 60 U 70 U 80 U 90 U 120 U 30 U 60 U 40 = 610

The intersection is a set that contains the information that is in A and also appears in B. Its symbol is    n

n of 20, 40, 60, 70, 80, 90,120, 30, 60, 40 = 40 and 60

The total cost of n is: 60+40 = 100

The total cost of U and n if there are 2 of set A and 3 of set B

Set A: 270 x 2 = 540

Set B: 340 x 3 = 1020

U: 1020 U 540 = 1560

n: (NULL) This is because there are no like figures in both.

Cake and millet will make up a subset of food.

A proper subset is a subset that includes some but not all elements of another set while an improper subset is the subset consisting of all elements of a given set.
