Reflections on the Doctorate of Nursing Practice, Coursework Example

Pages: 2

Words: 428

Coursework

Advanced practice nursing offer a complex and multifaceted approach to healthcare that embodies a sense of strength, knowledge, and quality that is demonstrated through the delivery of care in many settings. These professionals are responsible for providing high-level support and guidance in health promotion and in other roles (Newhouse et.al, 2011). In the recent past, it was believed that the Doctor of Nursing Practice role would challenge theory-based scientific perspectives and would threaten the integrity of patient care quality (Dracup, Cronenwett, Meleis, & Benner, 2005). However, this not the case and the DNP role continues to expand in scope and value for professional nursing. In this capacity, nurses are able to utilize a variety of resources in many different ways and support technology-based solutions to have a significant impact on nursing policies, procedures, and patient care (Montgomery & Byrne, 2011).

Nurses at the DNP level must be educated and trained to manage a variety of issues that require complex problem-solving methods and solutions. In this context, DNP nurses gain valuable experience in supporting the needs and demands of the profession and in developing complex clinical scenarios to address problems in a professional manner. In this capacity, I must serve as a strong leader with a greater emphasis on using evidence-based practice to promote efficiency, patient safety, and high quality of care (Montgomery, 2011). Nurses in the DNP role must serve as leaders and drivers of change, while also supporting full engagement from other employees who share a common vision (Montgomery, 2011). These perspectives support nursing-based change and progress throughout the healthcare system that will have lasting benefits for patients and influence how change is introduced within the healthcare system as a whole. DNPs play a critical role in the future of nursing practice and enhance patient quality of care, innovative practices, and provide support in areas of policy development, problem-solving, and decision-making on many levels.
