Relatives, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 279

Essay

A relative is considered anyone who shares a bloodline. They can be a direct relative, such as a father or sister, or they can be a more distant blood relation, like a cousin or a great aunt. Relatives can provide emotional support, and help each other out in times of need. Relatives are there for each other for emotional, social, financial and even complex evolutionary reasons that are not fully understood.

There is an old quote “blood is thicker than water” meaning that friends can come and go, but relatives will always stay together. Relatives can help each other out if they fall into legal or financial trouble. This bond supersedes social or legal bonds as family looks to preserve its bonds.

Another reason why relatives stay close together is because they trust each other. When someone dies they most often leave their belongings to their kin. This allows for wealth to stay in the family, so that future generations may be able to maintain a certain standard of living and quality of life.

This evidence is supporting by the theory of evolution. People who are more closely related to each other want to see their relatives succeed so their genes have a better chance of being passed on to further generations. It is for this reason that relatives are more likely to help each other out in times of need, as opposed to helping strangers.

In conclusion, the phenomena of kinship is truly a remarkable evolutionary device. By providing safety and support for those closely related to them, humans have been able to preserve their genetic material. It is for this reason that humans have become the dominant species on planet Earth.
