Reports vs. Proposals, Coursework Example

Pages: 1

Words: 405

Coursework

Reports provide a summary of work that has already been completed in regards to a given topic or issue, while proposals include a summary of activities that will be performed at a future date (Chapter 10). Reports provide information regarding a past moment in history, and proposals attempt to determine what the future might hold (Chapter 10). Reports are written based upon past events that have already occurred and provide a summary of these events, and proposals must demonstrate a high level of need and an understanding of what might be required in the future, particularly if funding is involved (Chapter 11). I have had prior experience in writing reports, but have not yet had the chance to write a proposal. I hope to do so in the very near future. A request for proposal (RFP) provides a list of requirements associated with a given set of activities for which funding is available to the most compelling and convincing proposal and scope of work (Page, 2005). Proposals are written for a variety of reasons; therefore, the focus and purpose must be clear and concise in order to get the appropriate message across to the reviewers (Harper). In addition, prior to writing a proposal, expert advice should be obtained in order to provide the reviewers with the material and expert knowledge that they are looking to fund (Unknown Author).

Grant Funding Website Investigation

In reviewing the Health Resources and Services Administration website, possible proposals could fall under the areas of Maternal & Child Health or Primary Health Care/Health Centers (HRSA). Many different ideas could be considered for funding, based upon need, location where the services will be provided, as well as the amount of funding that is available. This website provides many different types of funding opportunities that are available to nurse researchers in order to explore new ideas or concepts that are worthy of funding and that could be applicable to large groups of people.
