Role Development for Doctoral Advanced Nursing Practice, Coursework Example

Pages: 2

Words: 419

Coursework

In the DNP role, there are a number of critical concerns that impact their responsibility to advocate for cultural identity, awareness, safety, and human rights for all patients (Lecture). DNPs must be proactive in their efforts to promote inclusion and to support the development of new efforts to stimulate discussion regarding cultural identity and how it impacts the practice environment in a reflective manner (Dreher & Glasgow, 2011). DNPs must pay greater attention to their own voice and to recognize where weaknesses within the practice environment exist that may be supported by new ideas and opportunities for growth and development that will positively impact patient care quality and wellbeing (Dreher & Glasgow, 2011).

DNPs must also recognize the critical need to improve cultural safety and to engage nurses in behaviors that possess an ethically appropriate level of support and a framework for success and achievement throughout their careers (Woods, 2010). Furthermore, DNPs have an opportunity to examine their core strengths and to recognize the value of how nurses interact with clients and how this contributes to improving ethical behaviors and support in examining cultural awareness and support for all patients (McEldowney & Connor, 2011). The practice environment requires DNPs to be proactive in making decisions that are sensitive to cultural identity and also changes that have an impact on patient care quality (Brown & Crabtree, 2013).

DNPs must reflect upon the nursing environment and how they might improve the culture that currently exists and determine how to improve upon existing frameworks through effective leadership and a greater focus on the organization and its commitment to patient care (Bianco, 2012). The culture within the DNP setting must demonstrate a high level of focus on collaboration in order to promote new opportunities for growth and development of DNPs within the practice setting (Jiang et.al, 2012).
