Module One Video Reflection

After watching the video by Jodi Lamothe, it is evident that the she is describing the intentional change theory. The Intentional change theory states that people in society through existing social norms, beliefs, and behaviors of others or by influence of others in a similar environment (Schwartz et al., 2021). As the Lamothe narrates, she grew up in a mix race family, and that the values and beliefs of people around her affected how she perceive life. She is much motivated by the fact that her family struggled due to social and economic changes, and through those challenges she opted to do the best in life to bring change not only to herself, but to people around her. Besides, Lamothe is an African American, which shapes her social identity and development. Through different life aspects, Lamothe managed to deal with social problems such as poverty and inequality in society; therefore, the intentional change theory is applicable to what the video is talking about.

Authenticity by definition is the ability to create something or somewhat original. Leadership requires authenticity when creating change, especially on matters dealing with personal change, identity, and the a world that everyone want to see. Authenticity is more encouraging and gives people power to influence and motivate others in bringing the anticipated change regardless of the social constructed problems across communities. The video gives accurate information that helps in understanding the relationship between social identity and social change. Through such videos, people get motivated to overcome life changes. Thus, forging towards a better society, where attitudes, beliefs and norms can transform lives in a positive way. Leaders must be authentic to give directions, and they must be reliable on how they present their arguments to encourage and advocate for the anticipated change in society.
