Describe your analysis and project approach in terms of abottom-up or top-down effort.
My analysis approach emerges from the system analysis premise. In this case it has to be explained from the perspective of bottom-up or top-down effort. System analysis is the process of evaluating interacting entities. In this case the interacting entities are different software applications in delivery of efficient data base functions. Specifically, it encompasses evaluating the actual implementation process whereby vendors and programmers will bring up one application at a time; coding DM LC schema and sub schema interventions; modification of relevant programs for DBMS testing; coding programs to be converted; generating the database by testing and debugging and ultimately reviewing and approving test results (Basic Database Tutorial, 2013).
Further, according to Date (2003) information technology insidiously was developed from a computer based ideology, which includes a system analysis phase designed to enhance efficiency of the chosen model. A number of approaches are being adapted currently for convenience to organizations. Consequently, a feasibility study is be undertaken, next fact finding to determine if the designed system is working and thirdly evaluating how applicable the system is to end users (2003).
Therefore, in adapting a bottom- up approach data is collected from employees or external customers instead of managers and supervisors within the organization. This information relates to functioning of each aspect of the database. During the process a position matrix is developed. This facilitates aligning individuals’ goalswith those existing within the organization in determining compatibility of the technological intervention. Also, information regarding tools and process; work activities, level of responsibility and impacts are all gathered by conducting Position Matrix workshops involving at least 20 to 25 employees/ external customers (Determining Information System Needs, 2014).
What database system considerations and client/server issues do youfeel are critical to the success of your system or technology initiative?
Explain why and how you would address them.
The database system considerations and client/server issues, which are crucial to the success of this project includes consistency in data manipulation language (DML); data manipulation language control (DMLC) and data definition language (DDL). Database language is a functional mechanism in information technology data transfer. If there is no language synchronicity it is impossible to produce any client/server compatibility. The purpose of data manipulation language is to insert, update, or delete data occurrences. At the same time it allows clients to access and compute information (Beynon-Davies, 2004).
These issues can be address through a system analyzed as specified in module three whereby there would be an ongoing evaluation of the service to determine the extent of its applicability to the organization’s goals as well as if there have been any improvement in the service since conversion of the database. A bottom up as well as top bottom combined evaluation approach would be adopted in order to get a wider perspective of the issues affecting data exchange and client/server compatibility. In the bottom up style a Position Matrix workshop is used while in the top bottom brief survey of managers’ opinions would be solicited and addressed (Determining Information System Needs, 2014).
Would you propose that the organization make or buythe system or components needed for your technology initiative? Explain the basis for your answer and analysis.
In module three a proposal was submitted to the organization based on the premise that as both inpatient and outpatient volume increase inevitable expansion to the database would become necessary to avoid overloading and crashes. As such, while Kaiser Permanante has over the years developed as astute medical electronic record peculiar to its organization’s demands there is always the need for update since this in itself is the science of information technology. Computer windows need updating after a few years. The same is true of database software (Beynon-Davies, 2004).
Describe any additional steps or measures you would take in the systemsanalysis process to ensure the most favorable outcome for your system or technology initiative.
Measures which are valid for maintaining the best outcomes is adapting the five phases of systems analysis instead of merely utilizing one or two aspects of the model. It would be necessary that after defining scope of the project to proceed into a problem and requirement analysis from which a logical design is derived. At this point of my propose database conversion project it could be concluded that it is at a logical design level. Now it is the project administrator, vendors and programmers’ responsibility to further analyses the decisions that were made by the analysts to determine how valid they are
