Term Paper

What is the significance of the book’s title?

The title serves the book well because it serves as a depiction of the immigrant despair throughout the continents including the disparities of the African issues of the World Bank and Islamic patriarchy controls that hold back development in the various countries.

Compare the family relationships in The Belly of the Atlantic with those in Things Fall Apart. What has changed? What has stayed the same? The French obsessed locals are accustomed to using the graces of the land to survive. The family is tight knit and the values are very strong. There is much self-healing practice along with the use of natural plants. The difference of The Belly of the Atlantic and Things Fall Apart is that in Things Fall Apart the father was not a man that enjoyed work and the son had to aspire for better things alone. He did a great job in motivating himself to become very successful through the esteems of the villagers who cheered him onward.

Analyze the following passage. What does it tell you about political development in Senegal? (The Palaver tree is a parliament, the family tree an identity card. The national constitution remains a virtual concept.) This passage means the tree is the lead political force of the country, the family tree are the guiding forces that follow the rules and the constitution is only ‘invisible’. There is no true democracy that exists.

I would have simply continued my studies and aimed to leave after graduation. I would never have married simply to escape the wrath of Madicke.

What sort of economic and cultural future does the author Fatou Diome envision for Senegal?

Economic and culture futures look bleak for the very near future of Senegal. The government is at constant failure and the morale is very low.
