Discuss the issue of rationing care and post an opinion for or against with rationale

Although the politics of health care rationing serve to vet one side against the other, the rationing of care is indeed a critical issue in the lives of many Americans. The rationing of health care will require cuts in government spending no matter where that spending may or may not come from in the short term and long term (Cohen, 2012). Because the government programs that serve older adults and adults who need government assisted services cost so much, there will be decisions ultimately made about which services must be cut due to costs and which services are vital to the health of the population (Cohen, 2012). There have, thus far, been no compromises in the political argument.

It is estimated that approximately 30 percent of the individuals in the United States consume the majority of resources set aside by governmental programs meant to help all citizens of the United States (Cohen, 2012). What is even more disturbing is the class of Americans left out of all policies, those who are too rich for Medicaid yet too poor for private insurance. There are quite a few of them during this present day (Cohen, 2012). While it is important to curb costs, I personally believe there is no quick fix in terms of our health care situation. There are many families receiving assistance who do not need this. Conversely, there are many families who need this assistance and do not ‘qualify’. The system is in need of a complete makeover and rationing of care is highly important if handled in a manner that is going to help the majority of Americans and not only a select few.
