Background Discussion

Being considered as a modern artist that uses classical approach in representing his subjects, Hamblen is noted for the utilization of the color-transition technique that usually brings about some depth in his art. The combination of both warm and cool colors in a balanced manner brings about a notion that the subject Hamblen wants to present is most often than not referenced to completeness and balance. Fond of utilizing nature as his primary subject [about 70% of his works are about nature], Hamblen has a nick for colors that define nature itself. Bringing about life to his craft, he naturally creates a miniature creation of what is mostly appreciated by humans, the natural mixture of color and forms that are usually seen during sunrise, sunset, and autumn. These particular aspects of nature have been used over and over by Hamblen as the central figure of most of his works.

Color-Transition

Hamblen is noted for his fond use of color gradient. Slowly allowing the cool colors to transcend between warm to cool or the other way around, the technique for creating colors specifically create a more defined indication on the aspect of artistic condition of the subject that the artist wants to represent. The transition of colors is not only used to improve aesthetics but to impose on the most comprehensive indication of visual interest on the audience. Most likely, the color representation that Hamblen uses allows the eyes to rest and then gain momentum once again when the warm colors present themselves. With the effective use of this approach, Hamblen was able to create several levels of interest even in just this one piece of painting. Using cool colors such as hues of blue and warm colors such as red, yellow orange and blending them together with strikes of white makes all the color combinations of this art reflective of the realistic view of sunrise.

Elements of the Work

Observing the clouds and the almost imaginary separation between the heaven [above] and the sea [below], it could be analyzed how the contemplating effects of the color transition still works in representing each element. However, another factor could be realized herein, which is the utilization of light definition in his painting. Herein, Hamblen could be noted for his work on color and lighting at the same time. Applying light and dark colors together allowed him to effectively point out the separation of elements in his work which is very evident in imposing a more refined indication of what belongs to where setting the elements of nature that is in the heavens depicted separately from the grandeur of the presentation of the elements below.

Strokes and Tones

To create balance and continuum, Hamblen utilized a single stroke, briefly changing to impose on some elements that could be found in the picture. Observe how the clouds were depicted through brief curves separate from the arcs used to represent the entirety of the painting. This technique further makes it easier for the audience to see what each stroke means and how each aspect of art separates one element from the other. The strokes used by Hamblen could then be understood to be dependent on how he wanted to present the different aspects of his work.

The smooth application of arcs and curves to differentiate the lighting and color combinations speaks so much about the pattern of classical approach to painting that Hamblen uses in his work. It could be understood that it is through this that he is able to make a connection between the elements he used to send a message to his audience about the real meaning of his painting. Imposing an impressionistic style of painting, the strokes used in the Java End could be observed to take a definite turn in referencing the proper indication of depth and layering simply by the use of the different tones of strokes in each aspect of the painting. Practically, the utilization of such depth-defying style makes the entire presentation of Hamblen a well referenced idealism of the collaborative use of colors and strokes to define elements without actually putting them into the actual painting.

Reflection and Reactions

The painting of Hamblen specifically imposes on how he wants to manage the art that he uses to represent himself and his skill in his craft. The Java End is more of a representation on how effective Hamblen is in utilizing both stroke and color transition to represent several elements in his art work without necessarily pointing out what they are. Observe how he need not put an image of the sun to suggest that this is either sunset of sunrise. Instead, the use of lighting and color transition directly described the separation of the elements that are most likely familiar with the human eye. In short, he did use the natural art of his subject to speak towards the visual understanding of his audience. The approach of Hamblen in line with impressionism gives his art work a remarkable impact on the visual value that makes his every stroke a strong indication of his skills as an artist. It is through this that his excellence in combining both the classical and modern utilization of art techniques could be best observed. From here, it could then be said that Hamblen’s art of depicting nature into his paintings could be deemed effective and reflective of reality through the styles and techniques he use to define realism.
