Qualitative research involves understanding human or social problems and may include methods such as historiography, biography, case study, grounded theory, phenomenology, and ethnography because it is critical to the time insensitivity to the extensive resources being collected for authenticity (Chamberlin, 2009).
One nursing common research problem could be studied using the qualitative approach is the unrandomized controlled study involving variety of participants with variety of health conditions that experienced phenomena in their life time. Researchers collected data of phenomenology themes for the study, which it exhibits a significance of unconscientiousness in the part of phenomena with no explanation delved from empirical scientific evidences. In such stances, an evaluation on an individual’s phenomena experiences are usually associated with presented health conditions (disease, chronic, terminal ill disorder) on how ones experience in a randomized controlled study at one of settings, (i.e., long term care, acute hospital setting, and forensic units) where is desired among scientists and researchers. The latter of determining the essence or common themes of phenomena being obtained are conducted after literature review is complete. In despite of the sampling requirements for validity and reliability of preliminary data, the number of indiscriminated participants does not have to be large in order to obtain a rich data. Furthermore, this dynamic interplay of lived experiences involves activities that include turning to the phenomenon, investigating experiences as human beings live them, reflecting on the essential themes, using art and writing to discuss the phenomenon, and balancing the research context (Chamberlin, 2009). While other researchers prefer to investigate different methods of evaluating individual’s phenomena experience. For instance, some researchers want to focus on the perplexity to find the meaning of phenomena; some researchers want to focus on the meaning of “being” in concept of existentialism; and, finally the most creditable method is termed as “bracketing” in which refers to the phenomena’s concepts, assumptions, and biases involving in the study to elaborate an understanding of phenomenological inquiry.
The three aspects of the report a professional should scrutinize would be the materials and methods, data analysis, and results. It is imperative for a scholar-practitioner and or practitioner –scholar to discover the resources that may be brought up to the new study and to minimize the costs of obtaining unnecessary resources to assist the main part of the research study. Part of the materials and method section includes the type of a design—the duration of study, numbers of participants, and the positive and negative outcomes of interviews are important to understand or to object the outcome of the design and criticize about the design on a new research study. While these materials and methods are limited to the qualitative activities, whereas the Data Analysis is limited to the hypothesis results. That is, not limiting to, a thematic approach with a constant comparative method, meaning a progressive process of classifying, comparing, and refining groupings of text segments to create and then clarify the definition of categories or themes within the data apart from describing the data theoretically. Data Analysis is a decision-making tool for nurses to accept or null the hypothesis results (Holloway, 2005). The third part is the results of the qualitative report, which it gives an insight of the research outcomes, and the rate of the cases has succeeded treatments or other treatments. In addition, the numbers of patients received the similar dispositions would reveal whether it is common among patients during the duration of the study. Along with these three aspects of qualitative research study would prevent from hindersightfulness, biasing and increase possible assumptions of one is which is lacking from the study that could not be conclusive (Stamataki, et .al, 2011).
