Translational Research: Connecting Evidence to Clinical Practice, Coursework Example

Coursework

From a practice perspective, the DNP scholarly project should provide an additional layer of knowledge and resources in order to address a problem within the context of the nursing field. A variety of project-specific focus areas are available and support an understanding of the different tools and resources that impact project success. For example, a practice improvement project may provide the information that is necessary to improve efficiency and quality of care within a practice context (Brown & Crabtree, 2013), while a translational research project may involving bridging gaps between different types of practice methods in the application of research for clinical practice needs (Mulnard, 2011).

The DNP practice project must serve as an opportunity to learn the profession at an advanced level and to develop a project that will have strong and meaningful outcomes for patients, using a solid framework to accomplish the intended objectives (Moran, Burson, & Conrad, 2013). The DNP project must be based upon a clear and focused vision of the intended objectives and desired outcomes, accompanied by a strategy that will emphasize specific areas of improvement and the ability to clarify issues that may compromise the care and treatment that patients receive (Kirkpatrick & Weaver, 2013). This also reflects a need to examine different perspectives that may influence decision-making for a critical area of need. The lessons learned with the DNP project are invaluable and provide the student with an opportunity to develop a strategic care plan that will have positive and meaningful results for the career path.

Upon reflection of my project goals and objectives, I must support a dynamic that will facilitate growth and a diverse knowledge base in the subject area. At the same time, I will identify areas where confusion exists and aim to achieve clarity to improve quality of care. This reflects the importance of new perspectives and approaches to patient care that will have lasting implications for patients. It is my primary aim to be proactive and to communicate my ideas clearly, while exploring new frontiers that will support my own growth and development in the DNP role.
