Wax’s work: It is important to consider what she went through as an ethnographer. What kinds of hardships did she encounter? How did she overcome them? What was she studying and how did she end up at her fieldsite? What kinds of questions did she ask initially? What did she have to change in her methodology to obtain information from her informants? Who did she talk to? Who were her main informants? Did all of her informants work out or were some more useful than others? Did she make any blunders during fieldwork? The importance of Wax’s work that she is one of high-rank War Relocation Authority officials and asked to do the fieldwork at the WRA location and did not like the idea of the policy banning Japanese-Americans to go across the barracks outside of quarantined area, restraining upon the activities or communicate of persons outside of US government and military posts. Because, she gets to hear what Japanese-Americans had to say about the ban as they were very vigilant to the military.  The fieldwork that had blundered Wax that she had to find an informant in the WRA quarters or in the administrative offices, and then contacted the Issei informant recommended by Mr. Spencer and noted to Mr. Thomas on the informant subject but she did not get much information from Mr. Thomas. Next, she called another person, a WRA worker also referred by Mr. Spencer,  met a wife of WRA worker, but the wife had to run errands so then she became disappointed and did not like the WRA worker as once mentionable recommended by Mr. Spencer. Wax, then lost two informants since she was assigned.  the registration process that she had to split two groups of Japanese to evaluate the non-democrat apart from democrat voters.  US government, politicians organizations, and newspaper columnists limited their democracy activities . Another blunder is that Wax had to provide instructions to the evacuees on the principles and polices of the relocation centers of War Relocation Authority. Some Japanese-Americans were held for acts of  treasons, incarcerated, and or espionage,  in which made them reluctant to follow the orders, which made Wax’s  fieldwork impossible. She could not have done it better by asking questions, as it was not mentioned in the passage. She gave her own personal opinion of the informants’ appearances  she encountered.

Harrison’s work: What exactly are: structural adjustment, informal sector, free-trade based development, structural violence, export-processing zones? How does nurse Brown deal with all of these issues? What kinds of strategies does she employ? What works and what doesn’t? Are women completely helpless as a result of globalization and economic change or do they still have power in their communities? How is Oceanview being affected by policies of IMF and WorldBank (especially focus on the details discussed on page 456)?

Structural Adjustment is a funding/salary-merit program for variety of organizations that pays employees. Informal sector is a temporary industry that utilizes raw materials and other materials that is not widely necessary for the developed countries to operate in order to produce economy. In other words, it is not ruled by the Jamaican government and control this type of business transactions with non-governmental populations. Export-processing zones are the zones where the goods can be exported to specific zones with tariffs and other political implications that requires to deport the goods. Harrison faced personal and professional issues regarding to the housing, food, and a job. She fought for survival. She worked at free trade zone than informal sector because of ‘illicit’ activities. She joined People’s Nation Party (PNP) and She ‘aggressive hustling’ to trade money for the goods through the merchants. If it had not been for her former job as a community health aide. While the parties separate due to the political credentials, in which, they gets access to the basic needs than the neighbors. Nurse Brown integrated the household-based self-employment over the other job at the factory. Nurse Brown earned the name as she is being titled, ‘the uttermost respect’ for her work and did for many patients than caring for their health but for their basic needs as well.
