Coding Scheme of WBS

The entire kitchen renovation process is broken down to smaller elements numbered sequentially to come up with a hierarchical structure. The number codes are important in providing a consistent approach when managing and identifying different sections of the WBS. The structure illustrated above represents a Level 2 WBS element since there are two numbers separated by decimal points. The coding scheme above ensures each element in the renovation process can be recognized in any context of writing. The terminal elements in each section are study market, capital, appliances, and final report. All the elements above are estimated in terms of budget, resource requirements, and duration; linked by schedules and dependencies. Each element of the structure breaks the project objectives or deliverables down to measurable and more specific chunks (Elwardany, 2013). Additionally, structure for the renovation process is useful in monitoring the project, assigning responsibilities at each stage of renovation, controlling the project, as well as resource allocation.

Breakdown of WBS

Project Support

Project Plan

This project involves a variety of stakeholders who will be involved in project plan, schedule, and market study. Contractors and designers who will be handpicked will help in preparing the plan and schedule for renovation.

Schedule

The project manager will be in charge of delegating duties to the best inmates and contractors to ensure that work schedule is adhered to.

Market Study

Researchers will carry out market research to ensure that the team of contractors and designers are best suited for the job to ensure a long-lasting kitchen.

Finance

Budget

The budget of the project is estimated at $32,000 for an average size of kitchen of dimensions of approximately 150 to 160 square foot (Elwardany, 2013). Of this, about $12,800 will be used for the purchase of labor and construction materials. The cost for deploying skilled labor is estimated to range between $8,800 and $12,000 while the interior design is expected to cost about $3,000.

Capital

The capital for this project will be provided by the treasure of the state’s government as well as some humanitarian bodies in the state. Based on long-term ROI, Return on Investments, the renovated kitchen is expected to return 67-77% of its initial cost under the right neighborhoods. The state’s defense department is expected to take care of any under-estimation of the budget.

Design and Layout

Cabinets

Although the design of the cabinet should adhere to all the environment and legal requirements, several constraints exist: the cost of designing, materials, and other related practices have been estimated at their minimum costs.

Flooring

The floorings must respond to the kitchen standards: safety, ease in cleaning, and economically friendly.

Façade/Wall

The Walls will be smoothly furnished to improve the lighting system as well as improve on its aesthetic value.

Appliances

The appliances such as pipes, drains, sinks, hot water systems, plumbing fixtures, and electrical components must be fixed categorically to avoid overlapping of practices (Elwardany, 2013). Reasonably, it is practically wrong to install appliances before final finishing on the walls on the floor, walls, and facades.

Construction and Project Closeout

Preps and Cleanups

This is the last step in the construction process that involves actual construction and documentation of the project. This is the implementation of the designs and layout to come up with the renovated kitchen.

Cabinets, Floors

The cabinets, floor, and walls are constructed according to the designs. The responsibility of the project manager at this stage is to ensure proper resource and schedule utilization to ensure that all objectives are met (Elwardany, 2013).

Project

The last step involves project closeout after the end of the entire construction process. The actual building is compared with the design to ensure that it corresponds to the design.

Final Report

A report is drafted and documented for future reference.

Relationship of the Prior Documents with WBS

Some of the prior documents used for this project include the project plan, work schedule, and the budget. All the three documents are related to WBS since they are all systematic (Elwardany, 2013). They shoe work progress from the initial to the last step. Additionally, each action has a fixed period to ensure that there is proper time management. They also require an inter-disciplinary team approach to ensure that all elements of the project are addressed. For instance, project manager, contractors, and designers are involved in the documentation of all the four documents.

The success of kitchen renovation will be determined by the practicability and efficiency of the WBS. WBS is essential since it provides a ground for the entire project management work, including cost, planning, resource allocation, scheduling, and effort estimation. Its effectiveness is improved by the fact that it divides all major actions into smaller units that are easily executable. As a result, WBS should be considered as an important step in the process of implementation of a project.
