Essay

November 17, 2009

Dear Aspiring Young Minds,

Success is a much desired goal of any college student.  We all want to be successful in the classroom, in our senior projects, and especially in finding that first job and making a ton of money.  Admit it, you’ve thought about it once or twice before.

Being successful in this course is going to be a challenge for some of you.  You first need to focus on your ability to stay organized and on track.  Take a look at the syllabus immediately after you receive it and do everything you can to create a calendar – and stick to it!  It can be easy to get off task and fall behind in the course; therefore, it is very important that you take the time to get organized at the beginning of the semester and stay on track the entire course.

Because our course involves lectures, class discussions and group work, it is important to sit in the front of the class if you want to be successful.  Sometimes the lectures may be hard to pay attention.  Studies show that if you sit in the front three rows of the course, you will statistically be more successful in the course than other students because you are more apt to pay closer attention to the material and events in class.

Finally, the most important thing that you can do to be successful is probably the easiest – turn in all of your assignments, completely finished and on time.  I know it sounds like common sense, but you would be surprised to find that many students fail to turn in completed assignments on time and it has a direct impact on their overall success in this course.

If you stay organized, sit in the front of the class, and turn in all of your assignments on time, there is no doubt that you will be successful in this class.  College life is about being responsible and taking control over your own education.  By completing these simple tasks, you will put yourself in an excellent position to pass the course with flying colors.

Good luck,
