A New Qualitative Research Plan, Essay Example

In this assignment, I identify the research problem that I wish to conduct qualitative research on. I also give the purpose of my research and the questions that I have formulated in line with it.

Following some reflections that I conducted through journaling, I decided to develop a new qualitative research plan that I believe would be much more relevant to my profession in management. The problem that I wish to tackle is the retention of employees in sales workplaces. That is, my purpose is to know what makes salespeople want to stay in a workplace by analyzing the perspectives of employees, employers, and managers in workplaces that have high retention rates. Specifically, I wish to be able to answer the following research questions. First, what are the characteristics of sales employees who work in workplaces with high retention rates? Second, what are the opinions of these employees about their respective workplaces? Third, what qualities of workplaces seem to inspire the loyalty of sales employees?

I selected the topic on employee retention because of its relevance to me as a business management professional. It is important for any manager to be able to keep valuable employees. The problem is that as employees become more valuable to a company, the tendency is that they also become more valuable to other companies who may want to hire them. Thus, people often shift from one company to another because of better offers. However, there are companies that are still able to maintain high retention rates. It is important to find out what may be enabling these companies to do so. This is the goal that this research intends to achieve.
