The benefits of globalization have been uneven, causing a widening of the gap between the wealthy and the poverty-stricken, internationally. For example, whether or not a region has Internet access plays a tremendous role in causing a digital divide; use of the Internet is mostly located in the Global North allowing information and technology to be utilized in those nations while those in the Global South are at a distinct disadvantage because of lack of Internet access. In addition, a specific number of countries in the Global North control the dissemination of media information so that people in undeveloped countries have suffered because they believe that the values and attitudes regarding policy that are being portrayed by the Western media are counter to their cultures. In addition, regarding trade and trade in services, the Global North has been able to benefit at a much greater rate than those countries in the Global South; some poor countries such as India, for example, have been able to benefit from globalization because they have many educated, English-speaking citizens who are able to find work in call centers for products sold in the United States. The disparity in the benefits of globalization between nations has primarily occurred because of different rates of advances and access to technology, preventing those countries without Internet access and other modern technologies from advancing at a rate that is competitive with countries in the Global North. This disparity could be addressed by assisting Third World countries that currently lack such resources in bringing them digital technology, and other resources that would help them to be competitive in this ever-changing global community. In addition, such countries could receive education and other training so that, like India, their citizens would be able to work in settings that are driven by trade conducted by the developed countries.
