In its context, a scholarly article differs from other genres we have encountered in class in terms of language, vocabularies used, tone, and citation among other features. In view of Devitt, she establishes herself as a credible participant in the genre in numerous ways. Specifically, she has borrowed from other materials in order to depict thoroughness and relay facts. In order to make her ideas logical, she has dissected other genres for the sake of the readers to understand where she is coming from. Additionally, the examples she has given are credible and easy for readers to digest and grasp the concept. Lack of thorough preparation in any academic work can raise so many relevant questions, especially when the research lacks content. Notably, Devitt has attempted to change theories into facts, by looking at all perspectives regarding genres.

Devitt’s argument is so much focused on teaching of genres and she has dissected the analysis from diverse perspectives. In so doing, she has identified five claims she deems essential in far as genres are concerned. Her argument is well searched, especially because she has employed diverse pedagogical approaches to make it sensible and logical. In the same vein, she has focused on winning the reader’s confidence through borrowing from other scholarly materials.

Devitt thinks it is important for people to learn about genre because they gain generic materials for use in understanding other genres. In other words, people should know how to transfer knowledge learnt in a genre in writing new materials. Some of the different ways Devitt encourages people to think about genre is by looking at them as processes bound to change, besides writing a series of assignments and analyzing them.
