Abortion – A Moral and Political Issue, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 371

Essay

I personally believe that abortion is not a necessary practice and it is unfair for pregnant mothers to abort their child for their own mistakes. However, exceptions to this rule can be made when a pregnant mother did not contribute to the pregnancy by her own practices. Specifically, women have a responsibility to prevent unwanted pregnancies by using birth control or abstaining from sex (Randall, 2011). It is helpful for education programs to be created to allow women to be more aware of safe sex options they have in addition to the repercussions of having unprotected sex. Abortions should be allowed when women are raped because they are not at fault for the pregnancy or when giving birth would cause a threat to their own life.

My opinion regarding abortion does not align with the position of the political party to which I belong, or any party in general. Republicans generally believe that abortion should be strictly prohibited, while Democrats are pro-choice (Doan, 2007). On the other hand, I believe that there is a beneficial medium between these two extreme views. It is important to protect life and it is possible to avoid pregnancies. However, there are exceptions to this rule.

I would not be able to support a particular party based solely on one issue. I would vote for a candidate who represents the majority of what I believe. The government does have a role related to moral issues. For example, if the government did not support the moral opinion that murder is wrong, it is possible that there would not be a law forbidding murder. The government was established to protect people, so it is important for them to collect evidence on moral issues and help determine what is best for the country. My opinion helps influence quality care because I understand that life is valuable but it is important to respect that there are exceptions to some of the established rules.
