Accounting Manager Job Analysis, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 311

Essay

In the role of accounting manager, many qualities are necessary to achieve great success in this position, such as strong organizational and analytical skills, as well as extensive accounting and math aptitude to solve important problems. An individual in this role must also exemplify honesty and ethical integrity at all times. In order to identify candidates for this position, a combination of methods are necessary, including online applications to identify basic qualifications, interviews for candidates who pass the initial screening and might be a possible fit for the position, and possible problem-solving and accounting problems in order to demonstrate competency and expertise in accounting functions (Vitez). These techniques will enable an organization to be selective in identifying the right candidate for the position (Vitez).

In an actual example, the accounting manager is responsible for a variety of tasks that are directly related to accounting; however, a significant part of the position is meeting with other managers, solving problems among employees, revising policies and procedures, finding ways to reduce costs, and updating processes to promote efficiencies. The person in the position was not necessarily chosen for her accounting expertise, but rather, her ability to put out fires within a group. Furthermore, she was recruited for the position and did not seek the position in her own right. After she was contacted, she filled out an application and had one interview and was hired soon after.

The primary discrepancy in the process was that the prospective manager was sought for the position, not the other way around. When recruitment occurs in this manner, it is likely that a number of subtle yet different tactics will take place in order to find the right employee for the job that will meet all of the requirements (Selecting Winners).
