Achieving Social Change in Society, Essay Example

Pages: 3

Words: 909

Essay

As an induvial, practicing random acts of kindness is crucial for addressing and achieving social change. Smiling at a stranger or even saying hello will cost any individual a dime; therefore, being kind to strangers will cost us as individuals anything. Even practicing holding doors for strangers can make a significant change in society. As an individual, constantly trying to make random people happy can substantially impact both the one doing the act of kindness and receiving the act of kindness. We might know it, but doing small acts of kindness might extend to other people. In showing someone kindness, they might extend the action to others, thus unknowingly creating a chain of service, and I believe that is a significant step in achieving social change.

Creating a mission-first business is another way to achieve social change. In most cases, people develop businesses to gain profits, but a mission-first company aims to make profits and achieve social change. Customers and clients prefer mission-first due to the tremendous social change they create in society. Lastly, the more the business grows, the more clients and customers it attracts the more social change it makes.

Working in our communities as volunteers is another way to create and achieve social change. Creating organizations aiming at achieving social change is equally effective, but volunteering to work in organizations is more straightforward and thus will help such organizations further spread the social change to the community. Such organizations may be working to raise and educate orphans or even provide aid to the elderly. Helping in such acts may help empower the organization to a greater extent.

On to my last point on this matter, individuals supporting companies that promote social change are also another way of empowering social change and even forcing other companies that do not help the social transition to adhere to social change or otherwise go out of business.

According to Paulus & Essler (2020), in the past, employers were allowed to describe which gender is required for a particular position in a work field, but this is not the case in the current world as people have come to realize that it does not matter which gender is behind which desk as long as the work is done effectively. Such a routine for employers would, in most cases, lower most employees’ morale and even cause emotional damage to them. People should be allowed to work in any field if they are qualified and not by their gender. Working by employers’ gender preference would, in most cases, lead to the inadequacy of jobs, and thus, some people would be left jobless.

I found out that oppression and victimization are present even on a family level in further research. People from wealthy families tend to act royal compared to those from average families or families with lower living standards than the rich. The rich tend to victimize others by thinking that they are not worth being around them, which is not right and should not be encouraged. Avoiding people or ignoring people because of their living standards is inhuman, and to some extent, those who claim to be rich should find ways to lift the “the unfortunate” and even be welcoming to them.

There is always a point when everyone does not feel confident because of something someone else said or did. For me, this doesn’t seem right and should most definitely be avoided. In my experience, there was this one time that a friend of mine could not be allowed to play on the soccer team all because of his skin color. This felt bad and even caused my friend to change school because he was feeling unwanted and even caused him to seek counseling before he could play soccer again.

According to Oswald et al. (2020), most people do not realize it when they actively participate in transforming our differences into inequalities. This is due to their different bases of growth, and that is how they have been brought up. To a large extent, some people think it is normal, and they do not even realize the amount of damage they cause to other people. It is tough to explain to someone that they are doing the wrong thing, mostly when they have grown up doing it. For instance, some people do not realize that all humans are equal in capabilities and understanding despite their skin color or their standards of living; thus, you will find some people avoid others due to such reasons. All people are equal and should be treated fairly and given equal rights in the long run. As humans, our differences, such as skin color, should not allow us to categorize people as the “fortunate” and the “less fortunate”; thus, our differences should grow into inequalities.

As we all know, realizing a problem is a crucial way to begin solving it. Realizing that we are all equal, even on spiritual levels, we unite all people and create a spirit of togetherness. We might all have differences, but in the long run, we are all human, and realizing that will finally solve the problem of inequality and bring forth a community filled with unity and love.
