Alternative Assessment:  Aerobic Project

In this project, the students are expected to work individually to create original kickboxing aerobic routines.

Assignment Instructions

From the coursework, you have learnt that kickboxing aerobics takes the participants through intense punching drills and sets them to music so as to create a fast-paced, high-intensity session that is essential in burning calories and gradually building cardio-vascular fitness.

You should use the ideas from class to guide the structure of your fitness program, including the age, space, physical, dietary and other exercise requirements for kickboxing aerobics program.

Students may also access supplementary information from YouTube if it best suits their case.

For this assignment, you will not be requires to fill in a special template, however, any student who fails to stick to the alignment task scenario below will receive an automatic zero F2 grade.

Assignment case scenario

You are a newly registered aerobic trainer working a in a large gym in a metropolitan city. The gyms clientele has expanded significantly and you are now assigned to a group of clients to take through kickboxing aerobic sessions.  The sessions may be offered in a martial arts studio within the gym, or in a stadium hall. (Please note that Aerobic kickboxing differs from combat kickboxing because the participants in the former are not pitted against a competitor. Instead, the drills build a fun atmosphere to benefit the body and the mind). With the list of the participants handed over to you, create a 15-minute segment using one of the following categories of exercises:

  • Cardio workouts including Just Dance, step aerobics, et cetera.
  • Repeated Light Strength workout with exercise balls or small weights
  • Insolated workout for target body parts, for instance, the abdominal muscles, upper body, limbs etc.
  • Intense racing aerobics followed by cold downs such as yoga or Pilate’s stretches.
  • Circuit training workout using stations.

After making a selection: create a 15-minute segment of your routine

Grading Rubric
