Essay

Why was Johnson considered the most powerful African- American businessman in the United States?

Johnson was considered among the most powerful African –American businesspersons in the United States due to the manner in which he entered the business panorama. He is one of the few men that have persistently pursued their dreams disregarding the fact that many people discouraged him in the course of achieving his dream. He also, elevated himself from the poverty living which was very rampant at his Arkansas region and chose to live a successful life. In spite of all the discouragements that he faced, Johnson stayed focused onto his dreams and became among the few people who ever reached Forbes 400 at the age of 24 years. He also earned fame through publication of a consumer magazine with Negro Digest, and a number of African Americans within the United States read the magazine. Attaining such a status of fame was not popular for an African – American, and Johnson is therefore considered one of the most powerful men in the history of black American.  The above reasons justify this cause.

Why do you think he was so successful? Give at least three examples

Johnson was considered very successful due to the manner in which he faced the issues that came his way, both in business and at personal levels. One of the most common instances where he reflected success was choosing to ignore the discouragement from others over his ideas. His levels of persistence and determination led to his success in publishing an article in the Consumer magazine.  His level of success is also reflected when he appeared in Forbes 400 at a tender age of 24; this was uncommon for persons of African – American origin. He is also considered successful following the various decisions that he made at harsh economic times. These decisions enabled him to freely associate with the whites to an extent of securing funds from them. This was equally not easy to achieve due to the level of racial discrimination that existed at that time. Following this trail of successes in uncommon situations, Johnson can be regarded as one of the most powerful and successful African Americans in the United states during his time.
