Aging comes with several changes in the life of an individual; the most profound change is changes in form and smoothness of the skin. Dry skin and aging characterized by flaking of the skin, fine lines, itching and tightness, the condition keep worsening if no action is taken to correct. Dryness of the skin during aging is a condition if not checked will lead to adverse effects on one’s life. Several scientists have done research concerning the problem, to find out its sources and how the condition can be corrected.

Dry skin during aging is because of several factors, which include a decline in natural oils, effects of solar, decrease in cell renewal and replacement and hormonal loss. Failure of the skin to produce natural moisturizing component used in protecting the top layer of the skin has been found to contribute to dryness of the skin during aging. The condition worsens if not checked in time, will result to diverse effect on the affected, since cracks might develop, which might lead to skin infection.

Dermatologists have come up with ways and means of helping the skin supple thus preventing skin dryness during aging. Effects of solar on the dry skin can be prevented by use of sunscreen to protect the skin against the intense sun’s rays. Premature aging caused by drying of the skin can be prevented by including Vitamin A in the diet; Vitamin A becomes vital in the fight of the problem it helps maintain a smooth healthy skin. Chemical derivatives such as retinol, Atralin and Tazarac, are known to decrease breakdown of collagen, which is a significant component in ensuring the skin remain firm, elastic and have a youthful look. Use of antioxidants help to slow down the drying of the skin, this is a vital element in protecting the skin from dryness.

As the saying, cleanliness is next to godliness, maintaining a clean skin is a significant step in curbing the problem of dry skin. Dirt accumulated in the skin cause cracking of the skin hence its dryness. Moisturizers have been known to protect the skin against dryness resulting from aging; moisturizers help to soften the skin minimizing dryness.

The efforts by dermatologists to prevent the problems of dry skin are of significance in leading a healthy lifestyle and comfort. These methods of preventing skin against dryness are beneficial to individuals to lead healthy lives and to avoid complications in the future. Responsibility is the only way to deal with the problem if a healthy life is to be realized.
