Research Paper

Consultants can be utilized to make decisions regarding selecting an appropriate health information system for a particular facility. Health information systems have many diverse software capabilities and each health care organizations have unique needs. It is therefore valuable to determine which software is the best to suit these needs. Consultants and consultant firms have also developed a means by which these systems can reasonably be evaluated to determine their utility. One such evaluation method is referred to as the MEASURE evaluation, which provides information about the quality of data and how the system will be able to enhance the use of health information in decision making (U.S. Agency for International Development, n.d.).

Referring to the expertise of consultants makes the process of selecting a new health information system easier. Generally, these individuals have knowledge of both information technology and the field of health care, so they are aware of the type of storage that these programs have. Furthermore, they can match the utility of the program to the efficiency needs of each institution and usage capacity to determine the memory storage and processing speed that is necessary for each organization. These individuals can also be consulted to answer important questions regarding the use of these systems and providing necessary the necessary training. Furthermore, they can act as valuable resources to help the health care organization determine how to evaluate the data that the health information system collects and to determine how it can be used in a valuable manner. Since consultants are experts in their field, they are valuable resources for all information regarding health information systems (Bain and Company, n.d.).
