Alcohol Story, Essay Example

Essay

Alcohol has always been a traditional way for individuals unwind and have fun. I recall many times going to parties where the consumption of alcoholic beverages was present. One of the problems is that at times this consumption can get out of hand, leading to undesired consequences.

When I went to a going away party organized by my friend, who was leaving town to look for work in another state, it was only understandable that drinks would be served at the occasion. Alcohol is a traditional substance used in many cultures not only as a gastronomical element, but also as a means with which to relax and have fun. The supply of the beverage in question, beer, vodka, and various types of whiskey, was virtually unlimited. This, of course, led to a trajectory of events common to many alcoholic experiences. The chemistry behind alcohol is important to note, since alcohol helps our bodies produce anti-depressants, thus giving feelings of euphoria and happiness. This combination of euphoria and unlimited supply led to some absurd consequences. My friend and I had consumed too much of our various combinations of beverages and decided to go out for a walk in the fresh air. Eventually, however, for some reason that has long since been forgotten, we split up. In my inebriated state, I forgot the way back to my friend’s apartment. After wandering the streets like a derelict for some time, I realized that I could not distinguish the apartment buildings in qthe area and eventually lay down on a nearby park bench, falling asleep.

Of course, my consumption had been too much and I woke up sometime in the middle of the afternoon the next day under a blazing hot sun. My head ached from the hangover that had now set in. I still had no idea where my friend’s apartment was located, but at least had come to my senses enough to find the nearest bus stop and make my way home. Certainly, this can be considered a somewhat trivial tale of alcoholic consumption. Yet it nevertheless illustrates the ways in which such consumption can lead to a diminishment of our capacities and engender some absurd situations.
