All I Am, Poem Example

Pages: 1

Words: 304

Poem

You always tell me too late

But what do you expect of me?

I don’t even know your name,

But that’s alright with me.

A blank canvas

Filled with intentions;

Look out to the horizon with eyes wide shut,

Obscured by the insincerity of breath-fogged glass.

All I was and never could be.

All I am and I’ll ever want to be,

And all I ever will be.

How fast does it melt away?

Nothing lasts forever,

That’s what you said to me,

Walking around with this tattoo, so overbearing,

And all the while your eyes staring past me to the horizon.

Impossible to connect to you,

All I was.

All I’ll ever be.

Wishing that I could tell you the truth,

Wishing that I knew it myself,

Wishing that my eyes weren’t wide shut.

You always tell me too late

But what do you expect of me?

I don’t even know your name,

But that’s alright with me.

Heartbeats frozen along the way,

I’ll never lose this game.

On the same page,

Following the same rules;

It will never be the same.

Staring at this tattoo, so overbearing.

Nothing was as it seemed,

Find meaning in what was washed away,

But it stained everything.

Your all I am and all I ever was,

And all I ever will be.

Wishing that I could tell you the truth,

Wishing that I knew it myself,

Wishing that my eyes weren’t wide shut.

You always tell me too late

But what do you expect of me?

I don’t even know your name.

No, I don’t even know your name.

Lost in the meaning of

What was and what could become.

Stuck with a stigma of what I believe.

Shut off the mind

When it’s feeding you lies.

Tell me everything I need to know,

Everything I want to be.

You’re all I am and all I ever was,

And all I ever will be.

Wishing that I could tell you the truth,

Wishing that I knew it myself,

Wishing that my eyes weren’t wide shut.

You always tell me too late

But what do you expect of me?

I don’t even know your name.

Time is precious

Time is precious

don’t waste it!
