Allison is lying about the credibility of the new pizza establishment in town because she fears that she will be facing new competition. It is evident that she is engaging in unethical business practices.

In this situation, Allison’s actions pertain to the interference tort in which there is an intentional interference to gain economic advantage. Provided that the suppliers to the new pizza place are also offering supplies to Allison’s restaurant as well, she could reasonably argue that that the company is engaging in an interference tory as well by breaking an established contract with Allison. Presumably, such a vendor contract would prohibit sales to direct competitors, thereby indicating that the vendor is breaking contract.

Instead of engaging in this dishonest behavior, it would be reasonable for Allison to provide the truth of the situation to the company and ask that they enter into an agreement in which she will be the exclusive partner of this vendor. Otherwise, she will ask to take her business elsewhere.

Case 2 Conclusion

It is important to consider that Allison is somewhat in the right if the vendor is breaking a contract by offering its services to the new pizza establishment. However, if Allison did not have a prior relationship with the vendor, it is important to consider that she could be held liable for her actions. Overall, the lies were a poor business choice because it is likely that the vendor will see through Allison’s intensions because they provide specific negative descriptions of the new business in town and Allison will likely appear to not be a credible source. Therefore, it would be reasonable for the new pizza establishment to take legal action against Allison for the false information that she has provided to the supply vendor.
