Essay

What recommendations would you make to someone that is newly diagnosed with Diabetes?

The most important aspect of healthcare in treating diabetes is to actively assess the issues on a regular basis.  This is essential in treating the disease, as daily lifestyle choices can have a profound impact on how much of an impact that this disease can have on a person’s life.  “Patients both with type1 diabetes and with type 2 diabetes are living well into older age, a stage of life for which there is little evidence from clinical trials to guide therapy” (Cefalu, 55).  For this reason, one of the most beneficial habits is to monitor the disease on a regular basis.

Come up with a diet plan for one day

The most important aspect of diet for those with diabetes is to eliminate fatty foods as well as overly processed carbohydrates.  By restricting eating habits to mainly fruits and vegetables, and maintaining the proper portions of foods, the health of the individual can be maintained. Diabetes diets typically call for portion control, carbohydrate limits and, for those who are overweight, calorie restrictions” (Dufour, 1).  For this reason, a good daily diet would be fruit and toast with organic peanut butter in the morning, for lunch, some lean meat such as tuna fish and a salad.  For supper, the focus could be on vegetables, as well as whole wheat pasta for fiber.

What about exercise; should it be included and how should one introduce exercise into their daily routine if they have diabetes?

Exercises is an important aspect of health for those with diabetes, and many who are able to control their disease to the greatest degree exercise on a regular basis.  The burning of blood sugar through exercising can be of great benefit to those with diabetes.  Exercises such as jogging and aerobics are the best type, as they work the heart and are a good way to quickly burn excess sugars in the body.

What alternative treatments can be utilized to assist with insulin insufficiency?

By adding garlic to the diet, a person can help to further moderate their diabetes.  Aloe vera and ginseng are also two other ways that have been found to reduce issues associated with diabetes.  There are also various dietary supplements that can help, including alpha-lipoic acids, chromium, andomega 3 fatty acids.   Beyond this, many holistic medicines and psychological therapies are used in order to treat the disease.
