Using Zinn and Nasaw’s, “Gilded Age Gospels” (from Ruling America), describe the evolution of industrial capitalism in the U.S. after the civil War. How did business argue for their interests and how did the emerging labor union movement argue for their interests?
According to Hoefle Scott William journal article entitled, “Bitter Harvest: The Frontier Legacy of US International Violence and Belligerent imperialism”, it is clear that there are recent debates regarding the nature of violence and civil wars especially in US frontier mostly involves various foreign policies (Hoefle 278). According to him, there are also various myths and political ideologies that mostly control inter-ethnic violence, social conflicts and social inequality in the society (Hoefle 279). This usually results into a mixture of class warfare, gender roles, as well as religious identity systems and financial interest in the United States social classes including during the post-industrial stages. The evolution of industrial capitalism in the United States after the civil war and conflicts were mainly based on the frontiers fundamental building operations of the United States national identity systems (Hoefle 280).
The central myth of the past civil wars and social conflicts indicate that self-reliant farmers and settlers were mainly aiming at protecting their home and family land systems. The civil wars in the past have also shaped the current US constitution and other war independence procedures in the country including the evolution of industrial capitalism in the United States. Furthermore, the civil war in the past was mainly channeled against ethnic groups especially to promote expansion of lands and industrial regions in the North America (Hoefle 281). The frontier was also largely and directly related to civil wars and foreign ways in order to reduce problems that faced the evolution of industrial capitalism in the United States. The major cultures of the U.S civil wars and social violence in the past include social protest, armed militia and other foreign policy systems (Mann 41). The major frontier social violence in the America was mainly between settlers and other enemy groups in the society.
The original inhabitants that promoted industrial capitalism in the U.S include native Mexican Americans, Asian coolies and African slaves. In most cases, the African slaves were mainly providing labor force in the industrial regions in America. The civil wars was also mainly between individual settlers and other social groups. Deaths of people occur during the war especially in settled areas where cotton-growing activities were taking place. After the civil war, there were also various imperial expansions that were initiated in order to promote industrial capitalism in the country (Hoefle 286). The major types of violence that contributed to high industrial capitalism in America include small farmers versus larger ranchers, labor unions versus corporation’s wars as well as outlaws versus railroads and banks in the society. There were also social violence between political elites and ethnic groups and this promoted evolution of industrial capitalism in America. There were also various policies that advocated for the provision of equal access to farm land by natives in the country.
There are various tactics that were used by Native Americans in order to defend themselves during the war including involving the use of weapons and this promoted industrial warfare and capitalism systems in the country. The war also results into provision of peaceful options especially by commercial farmers (Hoefle 288).
From the article it is also clear that the emerging labor union movement and other business farmers in America managed to achieve their business interests reducing racism and inhumanity legacy in the society. Forced relocations, massacres and attempt to wipe out Native American languages and cultures was reduced in the country. Furthermore, the labor unions managed to reduce and eliminate slavery, race riots as well as ethnic social problems in the country. In addition, after the war workers were well paid due to proper labor policies of the industrial capitalism systems in the society. Forced taxation was abolished, racial discrimination and Equal distribution of resources such as land was also improved. The expansion of urban centers and trading practices in the country was also some of the business interests that were achieved by the labor union movements after the civil wars in America (Hoefle 290). This promoted civilization, law abiding communities and radical reforms in America.
What was significant about the year 1877 in the North and South, and what outcomes did this significance produce?
The major significant of the year 1877 in the North and South is that this is the year where a lot of civilization and industrial reforms in America both in the North and in the South. This includes a number of social activities and practices such as railroad construction and other mining activities (Hoefle 294). There were also major leisure based activities in America during this year including drinking, gambling and the fighting based activities in the society. The railroad construction camps in the society were mainly involving moral and spatial mobility systems in the country. The miners also promoted social gold strike and law enforcement activities in the society. Trading cattle towns and other social based violence activities also took place in the society during this year. Violence against prostitutes and other domestic based violence systems were also common in the society during this time. There was also some internal violence between settlers in the society. The Norwegian immigrants farmers of the North Dakota also managed to find regions to settle in the country (Hoefle 296).
The German Mennonites in Kansas also regulated farm boundaries. There were also some real carnage accompanied inter-group conflicts among Hispanic regions. It is also clear that there were various inter-ethnic conflicts between Hispanic and American settlers both in the North and the South. However, law enforcement policies were also promoted during this year.
The year also represented the end of the frontier where a lot of industrial states experience social disparity due to strong and stable labor union movements in the country. The abolition of slave trade, racial discrimination and other legacy promotion systems also took place during this year. In addition, trading systems and commercial practices were also promoted in the country both in the North and South in America. Business advocating and local government policies were also increased in order to moderate moral activities as well as to suppress violence in the society (Khalil 301). Religious faiths especially by women were also common during this year. The year was also full of political realignment systems including ethnic changes in the society. Therefore, it is clear that the year 1877 was mostly involving various practices including high railroad construction systems and other construction based systems both in the North and in the South. Commercial farming activities and operations were also common during this year.
According to Hoefle how did ideas of race influence violence on the frontier?
The idea of race influences the frontiers activities and operations because the majority of individuals in the America during this time included Native Americans, Hispanic groups as well as Mexican Americans (Hoefle 297). The other ethnic and races that influences the violence systems of the frontiers includes the African slaves, Asian coolies and other European ancestry groups. The availability of various racial groups in the negative influence the frontiers activities and increased the frontier expansions of long warfare systems in the frontiers. The racial factor also shaped the US history of independence in various regions of the country. Furthermore, the major social conflicts and violence in the society included race riots, ethnic chaos and economic conflicts especially between Native Americans and African slaves. Hispanic groups, Anglos and other Americans people also shaped and influence the industrial civilizations of the frontier. This is because racial discrimination, slavery and social banditry in the frontier were mostly based on racial activities and operations. It is also clear that race factor and ideologies led to the formation of labor movement in America during the in order to promote the frontier legacy systems (Hoefle 300). The active violence and the use of various weapons such as diseases in order to kill Native Americans was also mostly influence by the race factor. Chinese races and Amerindians in the country also shaped the social riots and violence in the country.
Furthermore, Native American cultures and languages also promoted the frontier legacy practices that led to abolition of slave trade, forced labor and other bad colonial practices in the United States after the civil wars (Hoefle 299). Social classes and status in the frontier was also based on racial lines. Indians as well as Japanese and American white’s activities also influences the social and political violence during the frontier. Therefore, according to Hoefle the idea of race systems negative influences social violence during the frontier. However, the race factor also shaped the formation and development of various frontier legacy imperialism and policies. Inter-ethnicity and racial factors also shaped the social inequalities and class conflict during the frontier legacy of the United States violence. This is because it led to class wars, gender roles as well as other religious and political based identity systems that defined the post-industrial systems of America.
