American Independence, Research Paper Example

The American war for Independence was one of the most profound periods of American history. It was during this time that Americans of all different races throughout the 13 colonies decided to put aside their differences and fight for common goal; independence. (Love to Know Classic Encyclopedia, n.d.) However, there were many colonists who were divided over which side to support. (Solar Navigator, n.d.) Many European countries were involved in the war including France, Spain, and Germany. Many African-Americans and Native Americans chose to fight on the side of the British. Germany also fought on the side of the British. Spain, France, and the Dutch Empire assisted the Americans. (American History at About, n.d.)

The War for American Independence was in fact, inevitable. The people residing within the British colonies in America wanted to self govern; as they were no longer residing in Britain. (History of War, 2003) A peaceful compromise may have been possible before the war began but after it ensued compromise was no longer possible. Once a war is starts it is usually difficult to end it on peaceful terms.

The American War for Independence did not destroy the British Empire because it still exists today and is now called the United Kingdom. The United Kingdom is still strong in some might argue with that it is also considered a world superpower, along with America. However, the American War for Independence did bring about a new nation, capable of governing itself. Today, America and Great Britain are peaceful allies.
