An Egalitarian Theory of Justice, Essay Example

The Egalitarian Theory of Justice represents a social construct that goes beyond the traditional beliefs regarding justice in the judicial system. Rather, this theory incorporates the notion that inequality in a social and economic context is a form of social injustice that should not be tolerated under any circumstances. However, this remains one of the most consistent principles of society and its people and dampens the possibilities for progress in many societies. From an inequality perspective, it is evident that social justice does not support the general selfish nature of many wealthy persons, those of whom contribute to the uneven playing field throughout societies. Therefore, these persons both willingly and unwillingly contribute to the significant divide that exists between the rich and the poor, and even the middle class.

For some persons, they are born into wealth and advantage simply by birth. Some might argue that these circumstances do not necessarily lead to selfish behavior by these individuals; rather, they had no choice in how they were born and raised. However, their actions as children and adults may dictate otherwise and further demonstrate the significant divide that exists in most societies between the elitist rich and the poor. Under these circumstances, social justice is not achieved and an unfair and unequal balance continues to persist and thrive, not only for social justice but also for economic justice. With these principles in mind, it is likely that justice will not be achieved in social or economic contexts unless inequality is removed from these circumstances and equality is achieved for all persons throughout society who coexist in the same environments.
