An Evaluation of Kohlberg’s Model, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 367

Essay

I object to the fact that Kohlberg’s stages of moral development are well developed. The technique only had men involved. Listening to the women regarding their moral ideas would have aided in perfecting the findings (Let’s get to know, 2012).

I don’t feel that all people are likely to proceed beyond the sixth stage of moral development. The process in addition to being tedious and requires individuals to be patient, and this is unlikely to happen.

I believe that few adults are likely to attain the sixth level of morality. An individual’s passing through all the stages requires a high measure of a patient, a virtue that most individuals only yearn for. Men with the highest level of virtue are therefore capable of attaining the sixth level of morality.

I am in the third stage of moral development. I believe that the good behaviour I develop at school will help in pleasing teachers and parents.

The involvement of women would have resulted in the realization of different results. It is likely that women’s values and moral development differ with those held by men. Included women in the study would have improved the essence of the findings (Let’s get to know, 2012).

I would recommend the Social Learning Theory to be used in developing the moral character of a child. Kohlberg’s model is more complex and involving, and its implementation with children as subjects of study is a significant challenge. In contrary, the social learning process enhances positive cohesion and direct exchange of positive values (Let’s get to know, 2012).

Culture and society, I believe, are likely to be influential on stages of development. The values of the society and existing cultural norms act as the basis for measuring the phases of development, according to Kohlberg. Due to a variation in views of practice, some cultures are capable of progressing through stages faster than others (Florida International University, 2015).

The parents, to improve their children’s moral development, should encourage the children more often to adopt moral values. Parents should act as the role models through observing their moral obligations.
