Essay

Women won the right to vote with the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution in 1920. This was a hard fought achievement. The success of women voters remains strong today. The League of Women voters, established concurrently with the amendment, works at a nonpartisan level to improve government and public policy.

Title IX, enacted in 1972, ensured equal educational opportunities for women and girls in athletics. Since then thousands of females have benefited from a burgeoning set of sports options that run the gambit from early childhood to college teams. Professional sports are unaffected by Title IX, since it only concerns itself with schools that receive Federal funding for educational purposes.

Various topics need to listing; however, the scope of this paper is not capable of describing them beyond the cursory glance. Women strive for equal pay for equal work, a goal that so far eludes Americans’ ability to correct. Women won rights over their reproductive lives with the historic Supreme Court ruling in Roe v. Wade (1973). Women fall prey to domestic violence, workplace harassment, and violent crime, such as rape, with numbers that are staggering and growing. Feminists have worked consistently to rid speeches and written communications from using sexist language. To some degree, this has seen success.

In religious circles, women are now, more than ever, are prone to lead congregations as ordained clergy. Women have maintained military connections for such a prolonged period that they now command as high-ranking officers. More than ever, women work outside of the home. Numerous women of minorities wage a dual, simultaneous battle against racism and sexism.
