Team working Experience

Playing for my high school soccer team enabled me understand the real essence of teamwork as being able to work collaboratively with other team members to achieve a common goal. When I first joined the soccer team in middle school, I played rather selfishly. Often, I could keep the ball to myself to display style and skills. This changed towards the end of high school as I matured and learned the benefit of teamwork. Ultimately, I became more strategic and a valuable player. Despite failing to attain the status of being a reliable player, my coach regarded my mental stamina, self-driven nature, and disposition to be open to challenges and to resist pressures as valuable for the team. Indeed, the feedback from Belbin Team Roles Report reflects a similar conclusion. Therefore, I agree with the report.

While playing for my high school soccer team, my coach often remarked that, I was highly creative with my dribbling. My team members also thought that I was good at inventing moves and patterns to overwhelm the opponent’s defenses. In respect to plant, which Belbin Team Roles report indicates, I am a highly creative thinker and an innovative team member. The rating also shows that I am highly imaginative and freethinking. I can as well generate ideas in order to bring solutions to complex difficulties. The Belbin report gives me a rating of 93%. I agree with the feedback. While playing soccer against an almost winning team, it was usual for me to get preoccupied with imagining and thinking out new and innovative solutions on what configuration or pattern would defeat the other team. It was normal to see me argue with the coach over this. I tended to think out of the box. I believe that being the team’s “thinker or brain box” is what has made me a valuable team member.

While playing for the team, I was a conscientious person and was always concerned about picking the errors my teammates made. In fact, I was often rebuked for such a tendency. In terms of a complete finisher, the report gives me a rating of 93%. I agree with the Belbin report. In fact, from a critical reflection, I have often tended to develop a deep insight into a situation with a view to establishing a possible error. Even though, I have often took the lead in searching for errors my team members made by criticizing how they played in the field, the coach viewed it from a positive perspective and made me an assistant captain.

What made me such a likable team player, was my temperament. I am highly an outgoing, enthusiastic and a communicative person.  Indeed, when it comes to the aspect of resource investigator, the Belbin report gives me rating of around 66%. I agree with the findings. On reflection, I often tended to be the moderator team because of my enthusiasm. While discussing our options during half time, I was mostly the first to start conversations even ahead of the captain. Because of being a rather humorous person, I often sneaked in a joke during moments of tension even in the field to relieve the moment. Averagely, I coped well with all members. Due to my enthusiasm, I have been the social magnet for the group, leading to solid interpersonal relationships.

On average, I was moderately self-confident and showed maturity by clarifying to the team members that they should not lose focus on winning. I also delegated duties efficiently.  In fact, in regards to the aspect of coordinator, the report gives me a rating of around 52%. I agree since while I am not actually an organized person, I am relatively confident and a strategic planner with strategic solutions for my team. In fact, the coach often asked me to provide suggestions or clarify strategies to win tournaments. I excelled in this and even gave hope to panicky members when we appeared to be losing.

In the field, I was satisfactorily a self-driven team player with the courage to overcome pressures. I was a dynamic, and a challenging person failed to succumb to pressure. Concerning the aspect of shaper, the Belbin report gives me a rating of 42%. I do not dispute the results, as I am not highly dynamic and challenging person. This is balanced with my tendency to stay passionate and to maintain a strong drive to win until the last whistle. Indeed, I have always been my team’s motivating factor for staying motivated to the last minute.

Despite being a creative and strategic soccer player, I was not a reliable, efficient and practical player, as I often failed to implement own strategies. Regarding the aspect of an implementer, the Belbin report gives me a rating of 9%.  I agree with the feedback. A scrutiny of my involvedness in the soccer team reveals that while always offered the team very reliable improvement ideas, I never turned these ideas myself into practical work. This is one key area I need to develop to become an effective team player. I need to be more practical and organized.

Conclusion

Based on the Belbin team role report, my key strengths include the capacity to solve complex problems and bring up innovating ideas to a team. I also tend to be very accurate, demanding and self-driven to attain high work standards. On the other hand, my key weaknesses include being disorganized and tending to overlook attending to matters that do not hold my interest. My other weak point is in addressing difficulties based on the anticipated implications of a particular action or set of situations. Overall, I agree with the feedback contained in the Belbin report from interactions during team projects.
