Fellow Colonists. After traveling the length and breadth of our Colonies, from the warm shores of South Carolina to the blustery regions of northern Massachusetts, I have come to realize that there exist a body of Colonists who are undecided or neutral in regards to the prevailing notion that We as a Nation must become completely separate from our Mother Country and from the Crown of King George III, even if this means revolution in the form of a military confrontation with Great Britain and the Crown.
Let me just say this–that if the Citizens, including those who are undecided or neutral, of the American Colonies decide to wage war against out Mother Country and the Crown, the result will be disastrous and will bring about nothing but humiliation and a decrease in our current and future Prosperity, not to mention the future lives of our children and grandchildren who will surely mature in a world overflowing with deceit and treachery.
First of all, please consider the current Power and Position of the British Empire in the affairs of the world. Under the auspices of King George III, the Empire has expanded to all corners of the known globe, places like Ireland, Africa, India, and even the lower nations of the Middle East and the Far East where the Empire has colonized many lands. As a result of this colonization, the Empire has created vast trading partnerships with these and other nations, thus bringing it unparalleled Wealth and Prosperity and the ability to dictate how the People of these lands live and work in order to enlarge the coffers of the Crown. We too of the Colonies are part of the Empire and it is our solemn Duty to aid the King and the Crown and to listen to and obey the dictates of the great British Parliament with its Commoners and Lords.
Take for example the Townshend Act of 1767 which was created so that the Crown could raise new and much-needed funds in order to continue its vast trading partnerships and to keep the seas safe from pirates and scoundrels via the building of new sailing vessels that in effect will guarantee our safety from foreign invasion. Charles Townshend, the originator of the Act that bears his name, had only the welfare of our Colonies in mind when he taxed specific items like glass, paper, and wine which were not produced by us. Therefore, Townshend’s act benefited us greatly by making it near impossible to smuggle these items into the Colonies which would have created a black market system. Thus, if we Colonists decide to wage war against the Crown, the negative aspects of the Townshend Act (the few that there was) will pale in comparison to what the Crown will tax next.
Please also keep in mind those of you who are undecided or neutral in relation to waging a war against the mighty British Empire was occurred on March 5, 1770, referred to by some as the Boston Massacre in which five of our Fellow Comrades were felled by British bullets. This event is only a foreshadowing of what will occur if we the Colonists decide to fight against the Crown and its mighty military machine which possesses tens of thousands of well-armed and well-trained infantrymen and sailing ships that could block our Harbors, thus effectively starving us out. Now, I fully realize that every man is a Patriot and only wishes to see our American Colonies thrive and prosper and to serve as a beacon to other Nations. However, if we the Colonists make the fatal decision to wage war against the British Empire and its sovereign King, the end result with be unparalleled disaster. Please bear this fact in mind because all of Our efforts against the Crown will culminate in doom for Us and our children’s children.
