Pages: 1

Words: 276

Essay

An organization’s portfolio of projects is typically directed by strategic, Return on Investments (ROI), and operations projects. What impact can this classification have on project selection?

Strategic projects are those that are designed to meet several goals, return on investments ensure the efficacy of the investment, and operations projects allow for optimization. Therefore, project selection will be dependent upon these three variables. Ultimately, an organization will select a project on the basis of which will generate the most profit in the least amount of time so there is a greater potential for obtaining more profit in future projects.

When analyzing project selection of the basic of strategic goals, it is essential to select projects with goals that are considered realistically achievable by the organization. After eliminating the goals that are believed impossible, it is essential to determine how these goals can be completed and whether this can be done easily and inexpensively. This will depend partially on the return on investment (ROI) that each project can offer. It is essential to make decisions primarily based on this measurable outcome as a guide of the most profitable project selections.

Before a project is selected by an organization, it is also essential for it to consider operations projects. To carry out these projects, it is essential that the project is well understood and that there are specialized employees available that will be able to optimize the process. Ultimately, the project that should be selected by the organization will be the one that, after optimization of the process and refined definition and understanding of the strategic goals, generates the highest ROI. Essentially, strategic projects, and operations projects are related on this basis.
