Analyzing a Passage, Essay Example

Essay

“Youth passes, beauty tarnishes, adolescence flies away. The importance given to riches does not last either. It is no son who will open the way for us to paradise. The only thing that accompanies us beyond life is the good that we have done during our present existence”

This mantra is informing the reader about the irrelevance of material goods and possessions, together with the journey to accumulate wealth (capitalism).  The point is made that these items are fleeting things and they will quickly pass with the passage of time.  ” Youth Passes” we have a relatively short life in the concept of time, our youthfulness lasts only for a short period of time – it is fleeting.  With youth we have beauty but this tarnishes or degrades with our age. Our adolescence or child hood is quickly over and the loss of innocence and virtue is replaced by the materialistic desires of adulthood.  We cannot “hang on” to these items they are transient possessions that we hold only for a short period of time.

Our society attaches great importance to the acquisition of wealth and accumulation of materialistic goods.  These are also transient, you cannot take material possessions with you to a spiritual afterlife.  No Son who attaches importance to these capitalistic values can pave the way for your entrance to paradise after death.  Wealth is not your entry price to heaven. The only true values that you can accumulate in this life are the good deeds, love, charity, and benevolence that you show to others.  These are the criteria,  as human souls, we will be measured upon.
